"Bones of the young and a sacrifice of magic to open the portal home." When they find the model of the castle, inside the model is a miniature of the brazier room, and written on the miniature of the brazier in archaic draconic are the words: The PCs are currently in the amber temple looking for the model because they want to try to escape from Barovia without having to kill Strahd. My players found notes about it left behind in Khazan's tower, including a note that he was moving to the amber temple and taking the model with him. When he designed it he included a failsafe that would allow him to teleport home whenever he needed to because he didn't trust Strahd. Since we know there was an architect of the castle, and we know there is a model of the castle in the Amber Temple, I changed the story a bit so that Khazan (the wizard who worked on the castle, and who built the tower that Van Richten uses on Lake Baratok) is the architect who designed the brazier room. In Castle Ravenloft there is a room called the brazier room (K78) where people can toss a coloured stone into the brazier, and touch the coloured flame to teleport to other places in Barovia. Monstrous Compendium Vol 3: Minecraft Creaturesīecause I tricked my players into going to Barovia (and didn't want a revolt) and because the only way out in the adventure as written is to kill Strahd, I decided to add an extra way out that doesn't require killing Strahd, but is dangerous and morally dubious, this adding to the ambience of Curse of Strahd.
